HEIMDALL

Heimdall is a little alien creature whose voice was provided by Teryl Rothery. We met Heimdall, an Asgard scientist, in the season five finale titled "Revelations."

The Asgard's voice sounds decidedly female, plus we know Teryl's behind it, but the alien is referred to as a 'he.' Even so: Heimdall is a scientist, a character much like Fraiser, and his scenes are with Sam just as Janet's.

Teryl talked about shooting Revelations at DragonCon 2002.

Heimdall in "Revelations"

Shortly after Thor's unsuccessful attack on Osiris' ship, SG-1 receives news that Thor is dead.

Freyr asks SG-1 to go and retrieve one of their scientists, who is now stranded on the planet Thor tried to protect. The Asgard cannot retrieve him since they are in the middle of their war with the Replicators.

SG-1 arrives at the coordinates they received only to find the planet uninhabitable, but before long an Asgard transporter beams them away.

Heimdall is happy to see SG-1, as he apparently has heard of their exploits. He also asks for Daniel Jackson, who of course is not there, having recently Ascended.

Heimdall tells SG-1 that they're several hundred meters beneath the surface - where he has been monitoring Goa'uld's communications. He also tells them that they cannot leave as they have to rescue Thor first. Thor was captured while he tried to escape in a pod to the planet.

With Heimdall's help Jack can communicate with Thor, who tells him that Heimdall's discoveries are of utmost importance so they all should just leave.

Heimdall explains to the trio that he is doing research on the genetic history of the Asgard. Since the Asgard reproduce by a means of advanced cellular mitosis, his work is very important in stopping the degradation of their cells. Without his results, the Asgard will soon be extinct.

While Jack and Teal'c go aboard Osiris' ship, Heimdall and Sam watch the sensors. Eventually the guys get captured, Sam and the Asgard have to come up with something. In the meantime Heimdall shows Sam what they have to save: a cryogenic pod that contains an alien that has an age-old Asgard. It's over 30,000 years old and was discovered underneath the surface of the planet, which is why the Asgard research station is there. This 'Ancestor' of the Asgard is their only hope of saving their species.

Sam and Heimdall transport to SG-1's ship to retrieve a cryo pod and a portable Asgard device. Sam goes back to the planet while Heimdall continues to work on his device. Sam gets captured, and is tortured by Osiris with the ribbon device. When Jack and Teal'c disable the shields, Heimdall can finally transport her out.

All should be well; SG-1, Thor, Heimdall and the Asgard ancient are aboard the the transport ship, but Anubis is about to shoot them to pieces. Fortunately, three Asgard ships come to the rescue. SG-1 goes back to Earth while Heimdall, Thor and Freyr go on their way.
